EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF JAMES EDWARD | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this House has learned of the passing of James |
2 | Edward Gillen, Jr., a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and the highly respected and |
3 | widely admired founder of Rhode Island's first recovery center, Anchor Recovery Community |
4 | Center; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Born in Brooklyn, New York, James Gillen was the son of the late Grace |
6 | and James Gillen, Sr. Known as "Jim" to his family and many friends, he was the loving husband |
7 | of Doreen Stafford, the devoted father of Eileen Dalton and her husband, Patrick, and Kelly |
8 | Gillen and her husband, Sean Maloney, James E. Gillen, III, and his wife, Jeanette, and Sean |
9 | Gillen. He was also the very proud and doting grandfather of Cian Dalton, Liam Maloney, and |
10 | Alyssa Gillen, and the brother of Kelli Campling; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Jim Gillen had fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. Through |
12 | his efforts and work with Anchor Recovery and by the example he set throughout his lifetime, he |
13 | was an inspiration to many and had helped save and restore countless lives; and |
14 | WHEREAS, The many years Jim Gillen devoted to Anchor Recovery were |
15 | wholeheartedly commendable, but they were only one small portion of a life that included a |
16 | panoply of service to others and there is no doubt that he has left Rhode Island a far better place |
17 | because of his life’s endeavors; now, therefore be it |
18 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
19 | Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of James Edward |

2 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
3 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Doreen Stafford and Family. |
