RELATING TO STATE AFFAIRS AND GOVERNMENT -- ECONOMIC AMBASSADOR OF | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Title 42 of the General Laws entitled "STATE AFFAIRS AND |
2 | GOVERNMENT" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following chapter: |
3 | CHAPTER 100.2 |
4 | RHODE ISLAND ECONOMIC AMBASSADOR |
5 | 42-100.2-1. Economic ambassador. -- There is hereby created the post of Rhode Island |
6 | economic ambassador. |
7 | 42-100.2-2. Appointment. -- The governor, with the consent of the senate, shall appoint |
8 | one or more persons to serve as an economic ambassador. These persons shall serve at the |
9 | pleasure of the governor with the appointment to be for a term of not more than five (5) years. |
10 | 42-100.2-3. Compensation. – An economic ambassador shall receive no compensation. |
11 | 42-100.2-4. Qualifications. – An economic ambassador must have earned recognition |
12 | and distinction as a business leader in the state of Rhode Island. |
13 | 42-100.2-5. Duties. -- The duties of the economic ambassador shall include promoting |
14 | business activities and economic investments in Rhode Island from different regions throughout |
15 | the nation and world. |
16 | 42-100.2-6. Certification. -- The secretary of state shall issue to the appointee a |
17 | certificate bearing the seal of the state upon which is designated the name of the appointee, the |
18 | words "Rhode Island economic ambassador," and the term of office set forth from beginning to |

1 | ending month and year of service. |
2 | 42-100.2-7. Position of honor. -- The position of economic ambassador shall be |
3 | honorific only, and shall not confer official status; nor shall the statements or views of the |
4 | economic ambassador be regarded as the official position of the state in any court of law; nor the |
5 | position of any of the state officers. |
6 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
