EXTENDING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ROBERT G. POWERS | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Robert |
2 | G. Powers, beloved husband of Barbara Powers for thirty-eight years, devoted father of |
3 | Christopher Powers and his wife, Laura, and Mark Powers, and the very proud grandfather of |
4 | Teddy and Brooklyn Powers; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Born in Providence, Mr. Powers was a son of the late George and Ruth |
6 | Powers, the brother of Roy Powers, and the uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a |
7 | graduate of Pilgrim High School and from 1964 to 1968, he served with honor in the United |
8 | States Air Force in Germany and Libya; and |
9 | WHEREAS, In September of 1971, Mr. Powers joined the Rhode Island State Police |
10 | (#76). He retired at the rank of Lieutenant in October of 1994, after having served in all the State |
11 | Police barracks across the state and having earned the respect and forged lifelong friendships with |
12 | the Troopers with whom he served; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Mr. Powers made his home in Narragansett, where during the summer |
14 | months, he enjoyed spending time boating, fishing and beaching at the Bonnet Shores Beach |
15 | Club. In the winter, he could be found on the slopes of Sunday River in Bethel, Maine; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Dedicated to his profession and the community, Mr. Powers was an active |
17 | member of the Rhode Island State Police Retired Troopers Association, the Friendly Sons of St. |
18 | Patrick of South County, and the Narragansett Lions Club; and |
19 | WHEREAS, Many people will go through their lives without any personal contact with a |
20 | potential life or death situation, Robert Powers faced such challenges many times during the |

1 | course of his career and there is no doubt that he left this world a far better place because of his |
2 | life’s endeavors. He will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
3 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
4 | Providence Plantations hereby recognizes and honors the dedicated service of Retired State |
5 | Trooper Robert G. Powers and extends our deepest sympathies to his entire family on his passing; |
6 | and be it further |
7 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
8 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Barbara Powers and Family. |
