A N   A C T

RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES -- BREAK-DOWN LAND USE

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 31-15-16 of the General Laws in Chapter 31-15 entitled "Passing,

Use of Lanes, and Rules of the Road" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     31-15-16. Use of emergency break-down lane for travel. -- No person shall operate a

motor vehicle for travel on the emergency break-down lane of any highway. The state traffic

commission may, by resolution or order, designate times and locations where, due to traffic

conditions, operation of a vehicle is permitted in the break-down lane. The commission shall

cause the erection of signs indicating when use of the break-down lane for travel is permitted.

Violations of this section are subject to fines enumerated in § 31-41.1-4.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would authorize the state traffic commission to permit the use of break-down

lanes for travel and would erect signs indicating when and where travel is permitted.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
