CONGRATULATING ZACHARY LIBRIZZI ON BEING SELECTED AS ONE OF RHODE

ISLAND'S TOP YOUTH VOLUNTEERS IN THE 21ST ANNUAL PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF

COMMUNITY AWARDS PROGRAM

     WHEREAS, The Prudential Spirit of Community Award, presented by Prudential

Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors

young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to

serving their communities; and

     WHEREAS, This year, the names of more than 29,000 nominees from across the country

were submitted by various schools and organizations and were then reviewed by an independent

panel. The panel subsequently selected the State Honorees and Distinguished Finalists based on

criteria including personal initiative, effort, impact, and personal growth; and

     WHEREAS, Zachary Librizzi, a senior at Saint Raphael Academy, has achieved this

national recognition for his exemplary volunteer service by being selected as one of Rhode

Island's top youth volunteers for the 2016 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and

     WHEREAS, Generously giving his time and energy, and with the help and support of his

family, Zachary earned this award by raising more than $1 million for the Juvenile Diabetes

Research Foundation (JDRF), through the organization of an annual charity golf tournament. In

addition, over the course of the last fourteen years, he has generated an additional $75,000 on his

own by annually leading a team in a fundraising walk; and

     WHEREAS, At the age of ten months, Zachary was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

Taking a positive and proactive approach, his parents responded by founding a golf tournament to

raise money for diabetes research. Within a few years, Zachary became an essential component in

the fundraising efforts by helping to organize and speaking at the event about the need for a cure.

He also mentors newly diagnosed children and is a camp counselor; and

     WHEREAS, Zachary Librizzi has clearly demonstrated that young people can make

remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of their communities by using their

considerable talents and resources to serve others and we are proud to acknowledge his success

and accomplishments; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Zachary Librizzi on being selected as one of Rhode

Island's top youth volunteers of the 2016 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. We

furthermore recognize and applaud his outstanding record of volunteer service, peer leadership,

and community spirit, and extend our best wishes for his continued success and happiness; and be

it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Zachary Librizzi.
