CONGRATULATING DETECTIVE CAPTAIN JOHN S. SEEBECK ON HIS RETIREMENT

FROM THE PAWTUCKET POLICE DEPARTMENT AFTER MORE THAN FORTY-ONE

YEARS OF DEVOTED AND DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF

PAWTUCKET

     WHEREAS, Detective Captain John S. Seebeck has served the people of Pawtucket

2

faithfully for more than forty-one years since beginning his distinguished public service career as

3

a Pawtucket Police Officer on May 20, 1974; and

4

     WHEREAS, Detective Captain Seebeck was a hard-working police officer who was

5

superb at investigating cases and had an uncanny ability to connect with the average citizen and

6

garner their trust, which is a vital skill for a police officer to have when trying to solve cases and

7

bring criminals to justice. As a result of his superior skills, exemplary professionalism, and

8

devotion to his job, Officer Seebeck immediately impressed his superiors and steadily rose

9

through the ranks, being promoted to the positions of Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain,

10

and finally to Detective Captain; and

11

     WHEREAS, Detective Captain Seebeck's diligent and innovative approach to

12

investigating crimes, and his ability to work well in a team framework, either with fellow

13

Pawtucket police officers or with other police departments and agencies, enabled him to play a

14

crucial role in solving numerous significant crimes. His superb police work led to him being

15

honored in numerous letters of recommendation and commendation during his distinguished

16

career; and

17

     WHEREAS, In 1975, then-Patrolman Seebeck played a key role in the apprehension of

18

three adult males who were responsible for the armed robbery of a branch of the Industrial

National Bank on Pawtucket Avenue. In addition, in 1983, he helped to thwart three heavily

2

armed suspects who were conspiring to rob a Dutchland Farms Milk Store on Benefit Street in

3

Pawtucket. In 1985, thanks to his alertness and attention to detail while serving in his car as a

4

roundsman, he noticed smoke coming from a three tenement house on Harrison Street and

5

immediately notified the control center to dispatch fire apparatus. His diligence in this instance

6

averted a major fire and the serious possibility of loss of life; and

7

     WHEREAS, Detective Captain Seebeck also played a significant role in helping to solve

8

a manslaughter case in which a boyfriend killed his girlfriend. His excellent work in State vs

9

Arthur Holden was commended by the trial judge, Stephen R. Famiglietti. Over the course of his

10

police career, Detective Captain Seebeck helped to solve many other cases and bring justice to

11

both the perpetrators and the victims; and

12

     WHEREAS, Detective Captain John S. Seebeck was born in New York State on October

13

19, 1952. He is the loving husband of Kim Seebeck and the proud father of Tatum, Tessa,

14

Jennifer and Michael. His tireless service, excellent detective skills and personal probity will be

15

sorely missed by his colleagues and the general public; now, therefore be it

16

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

17

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Pawtucket Police Detective Captain John S. Seebeck

18

on his retirement after more than forty-one years of distinguished, devoted and exemplary service

19

to the citizens of Pawtucket. We wish him a most happy retirement and continued success in all

20

his future endeavors; and be it further

21

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

22

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Detective Captain John S. Seebeck.
