HONORING UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND POLICE OFFICERS SALVATORE

BUGGE AND MICHAEL MCCABE

     WHEREAS, Many people go through their life without any personal contact with a

potential life and death situation, without a defining moment that turns an ordinary person into a

hero. Members of Rhode Island’s police departments often face such challenges each and every

week; and

     WHEREAS, Sal Bugge and Mike McCabe, University of Rhode Island Police Officers

for the past four years, were on duty the evening of December 5, 2015. At a little after 9:00pm,

the officers were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle accident that had occurred on the

University's campus; and

     WHEREAS, Shortly after arriving on the scene, the officers saw that the car's driver was

in distress and not breathing. Officer McCabe immediately began CPR with Officer Bugge

assisting until the EMTs arrived; and

     WHEREAS, It was later discovered that the car's driver had suffered a heart attack while

driving, and because of the quick actions by Officers Bugge and McCabe, he made a full

recovery; and

     WHEREAS, The laudable actions of Officers Michael McCabe and Salvatore Bugge

exude the kind of dedication to duty and professionalism that defines a true hero, and they are

truly deserving of our gratitude, admiration, and recognition; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby honors University of Rhode Island Police Officers Michael

McCabe and Salvatore Bugge for their decisive action and perceptive judgment in saving a man's

life; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Officer Michael McCabe and Officer Salvatore

Bugge.
