H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

DECLARING MARCH 30, 2016, TO BE "JROTC DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE

ISLAND

     WHEREAS, Six high schools in Rhode Island currently have JROTC programs:

Coventry High School, with the 81st AFJROTC Unit, Cranston High School East, with the

Thunderbolt Battalion, Hope High School, with the Blue Wave Battalion, Rogers High School,

with the Viking Battalion, William E. Tolman High School, with the William E. Tolman High

School JROTC, and Woonsocket High School, with the Woonsocket JROTC Program; and

     WHEREAS, The JROTC program is dedicated to furthering the mental, physical, and

emotional well-being of its Cadets. Its primary objective is to encourage young people to learn

how to think critically, to become better citizens of the world, to be problem solvers within their

schools and community, and to become future leaders; and

     WHEREAS, The JROTC program teaches Cadets how to display the theory, principles

and practice of leadership on a daily basis. It teaches them how to motivate others, how to plan,

supervise, evaluate and manage their daily affairs, and how to effectively communicate with

others both verbally and with the written word. Additionally, the JROTC program teaches Cadets

to treat others and themselves with respect and to take responsibility for their actions; and

     WHEREAS, The JROTC program also teaches Cadets about the vital role the United

States military has played in the long history of our great nation, and about the rights and

responsibilities of American citizens and how these rights and responsibilities relate to events in

United States history; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby declares March 30, 2016, to be "JROTC Day" in the State of

Rhode Island; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to send

duly certified copies of this resolution to Coventry High School, Cranston High School East,

Hope High School, Rogers High School, William E. Tolman High School, and Woonsocket High

School.
