CONGRATULATING THE PONAGANSET BOYS' HOCKEY TEAM ON WINNING THE | |
2016 RHODE ISLAND DIVISION III BOYS' HOCKEY TITLE | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Ponaganset Boys' Hockey Team had an outstanding regular season, |
2 | compiling a sterling 17-1 record and outscoring their opposition 106 to 18. The Chieftains |
3 | accomplished these feats despite being a young squad playing nine freshman and only having |
4 | four seniors. They are a hard-skating and hard-working team that always plays with pride, |
5 | passion, and determination and always exhibits the utmost sportsmanship on the ice; and |
6 | WHEREAS, The Chieftains won their first Boys' Hockey State Championship in sixteen |
7 | years, thoroughly dominating tournament play as they swept Warwick Vets in the Semifinals, and |
8 | swept West Warwick/Exeter-West Greenwich Co-op in the State Championship. Ponaganset was |
9 | led in the playoffs by the outstanding play of their sophomore goaltender, Curtis Briggs, who |
10 | stopped 34 of 35 shots in the two championship games. They were also ably assisted by the play |
11 | of senior Ethan Sederback, their regular season MVP, and by the leadership provided by senior |
12 | Nathan Morin, the winner of the Chieftains' Sportsmanship Award; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Winning a State Title in a team sport is a difficult task, one that requires that |
14 | every member of the team be willing to put individual desires aside in order to accomplish team |
15 | goals. In the 2015-2016 hockey season, the Ponaganset Boys' Hockey Team had those attributes |
16 | in abundance, as they were led all season by players Braedyn Demarco, Brett Marceau, Matthew |
17 | Carlson, Quint Bonin, Drew Briggs, Matthew Mienertz, Ryan Watts, Nathan Watts, Elijah |
18 | Wiggill, Nikolaus Goff, Joshua Soares, Jacob Lincourt, Ethan Sederback, Joshua Dalessio, |
19 | Thomas Caine, Dan Richardson, Nathan Morin, Nicholas Ferrucci, Tate Schaefer, and Curtis |

2 | WHEREAS, Ponaganset also benefited all season from the superb coaching and |
3 | leadership provided by Head Coach Daniel Morin, Assistant Coach David Plante, and Volunteer |
4 | Coaches Roger Briggs, William Lincourt, and Steve Winsor; now, therefore be it |
5 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives hereby congratulates the Ponaganset |
6 | Boys' Hockey Team on winning the 2016 Rhode Island Division III Boys' Hockey Title; and be it |

8 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
9 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Daniel Morin, Head Coach, Ponaganset |
