EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY ON THE UNTIMELY PASSING OF JAMESTOWN | |
POLICE OFFICER RYAN J. BOURQUE | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House has learned of the tragic passing of |
2 | Jamestown Police Officer Ryan J. Bourque, the beloved son of Lee Ann and Gary Bourque, a |
3 | well-respected one-year veteran with the Jamestown Police Department, and a resident of the |
4 | Town of Coventry; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Patrolman Bourque was a 2009 graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School |
6 | and had continued his education at the University of Rhode Island. He was a 2015 graduate of |
7 | the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy and a fitness enthusiast who kept in shape lifting |
8 | weights; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Patrolman Bourque was a valued member of the Jamestown Police |
10 | Department, a small force that employs 13 full-time officers. He was described as the kind of |
11 | young man you would want your sons to emulate, and as a humble, quiet and respectful guy, who |
12 | always had a smile on his face and was well-liked by all who knew him; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Patrolman Bourque had just finished up his 3-to-11 p.m. shift, completing |
14 | his first year on the job with the Jamestown Police Department, and was headed home on Route |
15 | 95 south, when his car was struck by a motorist who had made an illegal U-turn, and was driving |
16 | north, going the wrong way in the same lane as Patrolman Bourque. The collision that ensued |
17 | resulted in the death of both drivers; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Ryan Bourque had long aspired to be a police officer and to go about the |
19 | day-to-day task of upholding the laws of this state. He had wanted to connect with people and |

1 | was gratified to be able to "Protect and Serve" the lives and property of the people of Jamestown; |
2 | and |
3 | WHEREAS, Dedicated and conscientious, Patrolman Ryan Bourque was an |
4 | extraordinary man who serves as a role model for our young people. He will be dearly missed; |
5 | now, therefore be it |
6 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
7 | Providence Plantations hereby recognizes and honors the dedicated service of Jamestown Police |
8 | Officer Ryan J. Bourque and extends our deepest sympathies to his entire family on his passing; |
9 | and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Chief Edward A. Mello, Jamestown Police |
12 | Department. |
