It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 23-19 of the General Laws entitled "Rhode Island Resource |
2 | Recovery Corporation" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 23-19-24.1. Solid waste diversion - Economic impact and strategies reporting. -- (a) |
4 | On or before January 1, 2018, the corporation shall submit to the governor, the senate president |
5 | and the speaker of the house, a study of the economic impact of Rhode Island recycling related |
6 | industries. The study shall include, but not be limited to, direct and indirect jobs created, direct |
7 | and indirect economic impacts, and the potential economic benefits of achieving the state's fifty |
8 | percent (50%) diversion goal. |
9 | (b) On or before January 1, 2018, the corporation shall submit to the governor, the senate |
10 | president and the speaker of the house, a report that provides strategies to achieve the state's fifty |
11 | percent (50%) diversion goal, including the following: |
12 | (1) A review and update of the state's current diversion rate; |
13 | (2) Identification of problematic waste streams and sources and recommendations on |
14 | handling those waste streams and sources; |
15 | (3) Evaluation of current programs and their effectiveness, and recommendations for |
16 | changes to those programs. |
