EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE CHARLES | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Charles |
2 | "Ted" Wright. Known affectionately as "Mr. Narragansett" by his many friends, Ted was both a |
3 | well-known and well-respected fixture within town and state government, a local businessman, |
4 | and a dedicated volunteer who donated his time and talents to numerous charitable organizations; |
5 | and |
6 | WHEREAS, Ted was the son of the late William and Sarah Wright and brother of Zella |
7 | Westcott, Ruth McQuade, Kenneth Wright, Janet Wilson and the late Warren Wright, Kay |
8 | Sherman and John Wright. For sixty-five years, he was the devoted husband of Barbara Wright, |
9 | and the loving father of Terrie Quinn and her husband, David, and the late Paul Hoxsie, Penne |
10 | Drugan and her husband Richard, Sr., and Cindy Rose and her husband, Earl. He was also the |
11 | very proud grandfather of Michelle Hoxsie-Quinn, Richard Drugan, Jr., Amy Meyer, Garth |
12 | Hoxsie-Quinn, Jeremiah Rose, Tracie Quinn, Ryan Drugan, and five great grandchildren; and |
13 | WHEREAS, A hard-working man, who possessed an abundance of business acumen, Ted |
14 | was the owner of Wrights Rubbish Removal, Wrights British Taxi and Double Decker Bus, the |
15 | Bagpiper Smoke Shoppe, and the South County Trolley; and |
16 | WHEREAS, An active member of the community, Ted was named Town Sergeant in |
17 | 1958, and was a member of the Narragansett Lions Club, the Democratic Town Committee, the |
18 | Narragansett Senior Center, the Narragansett Notables, the Narragansett Historical Society, and |
19 | the Towers Committee; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Charles Ted Wright was elected to the Rhode Island House of |
2 | Representatives in 1972, and served his Narragansett constituents with honor and integrity from |
3 | 1973 to 1983. He was well respected by his colleagues in the House and was selected to serve |
4 | them as Deputy Majority Leader and later as Speaker Pro Tempore; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Ted Wright was also elected to the Narragansett Town Council and was |
6 | elected Town Council President in 1992; and |
7 | WHEREAS, In addition, Ted lent his time and had generously donated the use of his |
8 | trolley to the Narragansett Historical Society, where he also served as a Consulting Historian; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Ted Wright was a generous and steadfast gentleman who left this world a |
10 | far better place because of his life’s endeavors. He enriched the lives of all who knew him and |
11 | "his charming smile and charismatic personality" will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
12 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
13 | Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of the Honorable |
14 | Charles "Ted" Wright; and be it further |
15 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
16 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Barbara Wright and Family. |
