RELATING TO HIGHWAYS - SIDEWALKS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 24-7 of the General Laws entitled "Sidewalks" is hereby amended |
2 | by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 24-7-12. Snow removal on state controlled pedestrian walkways. – The director of the |
4 | department of transportation is directed to organize and complete snow removal on all sidewalks |
5 | located on state highway overpasses, and on all pedestrian overhead walkways under the control |
6 | of the state that have significant pedestrian traffic. The department is hereby directed to |
7 | promulgate rules and regulations to implement the provisions of this section which shall, at a |
8 | minimum, include identifying those sidewalks and walkways that have significant pedestrian |
9 | traffic. The department shall utilize and seek input from the various cities and towns in |
10 | identifying the subject sidewalks and walkways. The removal of snow shall be completed within |
11 | twenty-four (24) hours after the end of snowfall. |
12 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
