     STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY

JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2016

____________

S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE WARWICK NORTH LITTLE LEAGUE SOFTBALL ALL-STARS

FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2015 SOFTBALL SEASON

Introduced By: Senators McCaffrey, Lynch Prata, Morgan, Lombardi, and Algiere

     Date Introduced: January 21, 2016

Referred To: Recommended for Immediate Consideration

1

WHEREAS, The Warwick North Little League Softball All-Stars worked tirelessly and

2

devoted countless hours training and practicing on the softball diamond aspiring and dreaming of

3

making a mark both locally and nationally in Little League Softball. It would be an

4

understatement to say that they accomplished those goals and more during the 2015 softball

5

season; and

6

WHEREAS, Warwick North dominated their regular season competition, going

7

undefeated and winning the Rhode Island District III Championship. In the Rhode Island State

8

Championship, they faced defending champion Cranston National-Budlong for the title and

9

proved that they were a special, once in a generation squad, as they thrashed the defending

10

champions by the score of 20 to 3. Warwick North earned a berth in the East Regional

11

Tournament in Bristol, Connecticut, where they advanced to the Little League Softball World

12

Series after prevailing over Delaware by the score of 3 to 2 in the title game; and

13

WHEREAS, Warwick North lost their first game of the Little League Softball World

14

Series to Uganda but then showed their fighting spirit and perseverance as they rolled to the

15

Championship game, along the way defeating Puerto Rico, in a thrilling come-from-behind 10 to

16

9 win, Texas by the score of 4 to 1, and shutting out host Oregon by the score of 5 to 0. In the

17

Championship game, after falling behind 4-0 to Salisbury, North Carolina, Warwick North

18

mounted a late comeback but just fell short, losing 4-2; and

19

WHEREAS, Warwick North may have finished second in the Little League Softball

1

World Series but they will always be world champions in the eyes of the many who so closely

2

followed this team on their incredible journey and cheered them on every step of the way. At their

3

homecoming from the Little League Softball World Series they were greeted by two fire trucks

4

blaring horns and by many family members and friends. The decision by the Warwick Beacon to

5

name this unforgettable team as its story of the year is a testament to the powerful and enduring

6

mark they made on the Warwick and Rhode Island sports scene in 2015; and

7

WHEREAS, Championship teams do not happen by accident. It requires that each

8

member of the team gives a complete effort at all times and puts team goals ahead of individual

9

goals. It also requires superb leadership and excellent coaching. The Warwick North Little

10

League Softball All-Stars had those qualities in abundance as they were led all season by the

11

superb play provided by Destinee Santiago, Sophia Kimberly DeTroia, Dyonna Marie Alinzia

12

Rodas, Madison Nicole D'Amato, Bryanna Marie Rastella, Kelsey Lee Burr, Emily Frances

13

Carter, Sydni Rose Bigelli, Alyssa Josephine Richard, Sierra Marguerite Ricci, Hailey Faith

14

Mackinnon, Olivia Genevieve Murray, and Michaela Teresa Capicotto, along with the

15

outstanding coaching provided by Manager Kevin Paul DeTroia, Coach Carlos Geronimo Rodas,

16

and Coach Brian Charles D'Amato; now, therefore be it

17

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

18

hereby congratulates the Warwick North Little League Softball All-Stars for their outstanding

19

2015 softball season; and be it further

20

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

21

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Manager Kevin Paul DeTroia.
