	RELATING TO PUBLIC PROPERTY AND WORKS -- STATE PURCHASES

	It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
1	SECTION 1. Section 37-2-22 of the General Laws in Chapter 37-2 entitled "State
2	Purchases" is hereby amended to read as follows:
3	37-2-22. Small purchases. -- Procurements, not to exceed an aggregate amount of ten
4	thousand dollars ($10,000) fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) for construction and five thousand
5	dollars ($5,000) twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) for all other purchases may be made in
6	accordance with small purchase regulations promulgated by the chief purchasing officer.
7	Procurement requirements shall not be artificially divided so as to constitute a small purchase
8	under this section.
9	SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

1	This act would increase the minimum amount of state purchases subject to competitive
2	bidding from ten thousand dollars ($10,000) to fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) for construction
3	and from five thousand dollars ($5,000) to twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) for all other
4	purchases.
5	This act would take effect upon passage.
