EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ROSE ANN OATES | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Rose |
2 | Ann Oates, beloved wife of the late Thomas F. Oates, Jr., who had been her childhood |
3 | sweetheart, and loving mother of Pamela Lang, RN, and her husband, Thomas Lang, MD, |
4 | Commander Thomas F. Oates, III, PPD, and his wife, Laurie, John J. Oates and his wife, Karen, |
5 | Terrence P. Oates and his wife, Kelly, Kevin M. Oates and his companion, Margaret Foster, and |
6 | Christopher D. Oates and his wife, Maria; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Born in Chepachet, Rose Ann Oates was a daughter of the late Sidney and |
8 | Helen Bertherman, and the sister of Catherine Bagwell, Clair Bailey, and the late Sidney |
9 | Bertherman, Helen Bertherman and Jennivive Whelan. She was a graduate of Saint Xavier |
10 | Academy and Emmanuel College; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Rose Ann's loving personality created and nurtured a marriage that |
12 | flourished, and a home that was warm and welcoming. She was a resident of Greenville but had |
13 | also spent part of the year at her home in Delray Beach in Florida. She was the very proud and |
14 | doting "Nana" of nineteen loving grandchildren, one of whom is our friend and colleague, |
15 | Brenden Oates, and was also blessed with nine beautiful great-grandchildren; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Rose Ann had been the kind of mother and nana that every child needs and |
17 | deserves. She loved nothing more than preparing Sunday dinner for the whole family and |
18 | watching the children frolic in her pool. She often listened to the scanner with the children, |
19 | followed by a ride to anything exciting happening around town, and there were many, many |
20 | special outings with the children to shop for school clothes or visit such fun places as Fantasy |

2 | WHEREAS, In addition to making a home for her family, Rose Ann and her husband, |
3 | Tom, had been the owners of Oates Tavern on Douglas Avenue in North Providence, for many |
4 | years. Before retiring, she had also been employed with the State of Rhode Island; and |
5 | WHEREAS, There is no doubt that Rose Ann Oates, a kind and gracious lady, left an |
6 | indelible mark on the lives of those she knew and loved, and she will be dearly missed; now, |
7 | therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
9 | hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Rose Ann Oates; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Pamela Lang, RN, Commander Thomas F. |
12 | Oates, III, PPD, John J. Oates, Terrence P. Oates, Kevin M. Oates, Christopher D. Oates, and |
13 | Brenden Oates. |
