EXPRESSING PROFOUND SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF JOANNE COIA | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the Rhode Island Senate has learned of the |
2 | passing of Joanne (Ciaccia) Coia, beloved mother of Arthur E. Coia, II, and his wife, Jennifer |
3 | Goodrich, and Christen A. Corrente, and her husband, Darren. She had been married to Arthur A. |
4 | Coia, Esq., for 43 years, and was the loving and devoted grandmother of Catherine, Nicholas, |
5 | Caroline, and AJ; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Joanne Coia was born in Providence, and was the daughter of Janice and |
7 | Louis Ciaccia, and the sister of Rita Sorensen. She was a longtime resident of the Town of |
8 | Barrington and also Singer Island, Florida; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Coia had received her Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Rhode |
10 | Island College. She had a lifelong passion for the arts and had founded the Joanne Coia Gallery in |
11 | Delray Beach, Florida, as a resource for painters and sculptors; and |
12 | WHEREAS, A devout catholic, Mrs. Coia was a parishioner of St. Luke's Parish in |
13 | Barrington for 40 years, and had frequently attended mass at the Carmelite Monastery. She had |
14 | served as a Trustee on the United States Botanic Gardens, and was a supporter of the National |
15 | Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC.; and |
16 | WHEREAS, In addition to spending time with her family and many friends, and |
17 | especially her cherished grandchildren, Mrs. Coia had enjoyed traveling, and was a champion dog |
18 | breeder and golf enthusiast. Her enthusiasm for living to the fullest was infectious and she left an |
19 | indelible mark on the lives of all who had the good fortune to be part of her life. She will be |
20 | dearly missed; now, therefore be it |

1 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2 | hereby joins the family and many friends and admirers of Joanne Coia in mourning her passing; |
3 | and be it further |
4 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
5 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Christen A. Corrente and Family, and Arthur E. |
6 | Coia, II, and Family. |
