EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF JOSEPH C. SADLIER | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Joseph |
2 | "The Pieman" Sadlier, the loving husband of fifty-nine years to Vivian Sadlier, and the devoted |
3 | father of Joan Corey, and her husband, Frank, Paula Fontaine and her husband, John, Joseph |
4 | Sadlier and his wife, Maria, Catherine Sadlier Ciresi and her husband, Robert, and Rachel |
5 | Williams and her husband, James. He was also the very proud grandpa of Lara, Alexandra, Billy, |
6 | Julie, Nicholas, Troy, Matthew, Zane, Viviana, and Richard; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Joe Sadlier was the son of Beatrice and Joseph Sadlier. He was a lifelong |
8 | resident of Pawtucket, and had attended St. Mary's School in Pawtucket, and Pawtucket West |
9 | High School. He was the brother of Eileen Corrigan and her husband, Ray, Sr., Maureen Sadlier |
10 | RSM, Catherine Sadlier, Beatrice Sharkey and her husband, Steve, his sister-in-law Regina |
11 | Sadlier, and the late Father Richard Sadlier SSJ, Eugene Sadlier, John Sadlier, and William |
12 | Sadlier; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Joe had served our country with honor and dignity in the United States |
14 | Army during the Korean War, and he was a devout Catholic and a member of the Knights of |
15 | Columbus; and |
16 | WHEREAS, With a passion for cooking and a desire to help those in need, Joe earned the |
17 | moniker of "The Pieman" and the love and respect of the people of Pawtucket, for his delectable |
18 | and renowned meat pies. He was a dedicated volunteer for many causes, and primarily through |
19 | the sale of his pies, he was a prolific fund raiser for those less fortunate than himself. Never one |
20 | to remain idle, Joe also managed the Hospitality House soup kitchen at Central Falls' Notre Dame |

1 | Church after retiring; and |
2 | WHEREAS, For many years, Joe also organized the Toys for Tots drive at St. Mary's |
3 | Church in Pawtucket and served on the board of the Pawtucket Substance Abuse Prevention Task |
4 | Force; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Although Joe did not seek gratitude or notoriety for his altruistic endeavors, |
6 | he was honored many times during his lifetime. In 1999, he was delighted and humbled to be "the |
7 | face of Ireland" in Pawtucket's St. Patrick's Day Parade, and in 2000, he was inducted into the |
8 | Pawtucket Hall of Fame. On October 25, 2001, Joe received the Daily Point of Light from then |
9 | President George W. Bush, and in 2012, he was honored by the RI Blood Center for being a |
10 | lifelong blood donor; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Joe Sadlier was a noble and giving gentleman who left this world a little |
12 | better fed and a much better place because of his life’s endeavors. He enriched the lives of those |
13 | who knew him and he will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
14 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
15 | hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Joseph C. Sadlier; and be it further |
16 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
17 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Vivian Sadlier and Family. |
