S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES TO THE MUTTER FAMILY ON THE PASSING OF THE

HONORABLE JOHN A. MUTTER, ASSOCIATE JUSTICE OF THE RHODE ISLAND

FAMILY COURT

     WHEREAS, The Honorable Judge John A. Mutter was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island,

the son of the late Augustus and Lena Mutter. He was the husband of Bonnie Ruth Mutter. He

was predeceased by his wife Barbara (Menagh) Mutter. Judge Mutter was a graduate of St.

Raphael Academy. Judge Mutter earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Providence College and

a law degree from Boston University. He served our nation with honor and valor in the United

States Navy during World War II; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Mutter served the citizens of Rhode Island with integrity and

distinction as an Associate Justice of the Rhode Island Family Court. He was a member of the

American Bar Association, the Rhode Island Bar Association, the American Judicature

Association, the National Association of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and the National

Association of Trial Judges; and

     WHEREAS, In his spare time, Judge Mutter enjoyed exhibiting various dog breeds,

including Irish Wolfhounds, Great Danes, Weimaraners, and his current champion Yorkshire

Terrier. He served as Past President of the Providence County Kennel Club, and was truly a man

for all seasons; and

     WHEREAS, Besides his wife, Judge Mutter leaves behind his children, Christopher S.

Mutter and his wife, Claudia, Kristina L. Sampson and her husband, Phillip, Lisa A. Gendreau

and her husband, David, his daughter-in-law Karole Mutter, and Kurt F. Mutter. He also leaves

behind his grandchildren, Sarah Mutter, Kayla M. Figueiredo, Erin Bailey, Margaret Martel,

Patrick Gendreau, and Menagh Gendreau, and his three great-grandchildren, Harper Grace

Figueiredo, Justin Jaramillo and Evelyn Bailey. He was the father of the late Eric J. Mutter and

Heidi J. Mutter; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the state of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby expresses its deepest condolences to the Mutter Family on the passing of the Honorable

John A. Mutter, Associate Justice of the Rhode Island Family Court; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Bonnie Ruth Mutter.
