S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING ORCHARD FARMS AND STONE HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

ON BEING RECOGNIZED AS COMMENDED SCHOOLS BY THE RHODE ISLAND

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

     WHEREAS, A good public education is the birthright of all of our state's children and

2

creating schools of excellence is essential to preparing for America's future; and

3

     WHEREAS, Annually, the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) selects

4

schools who have demonstrated exceptional performance through “high achievement levels on

5

state assessments, narrow achievement gaps, and progress made over time,” to be named as

6

Commended Schools. In addition, Commended Schools must have student participation rates of

7

at least 95 percent on state assessments; and

8

     WHEREAS, In 2015, Orchard Farms and Stone Hill Elementary Schools were two of the

9

seventeen schools in the state to have earned this outstanding acclamation; and

10

     WHEREAS, Orchard Farms and Stone Hill Elementary Schools are shining examples of

11

schools that have set high standards of academic excellence for all students and where creative

12

programs and support systems have helped students reach those standards; now, therefore be it

13

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

14

hereby congratulates the administration, faculty and students of being selected as a Commended

15

Schools for 2015. We furthermore wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

16

      RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

17

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Ms. Magnelli, Principal, Orchard Farms

Elementary School, and Danielle De Simone, Principal, Stone Hill Elementary School.
