     STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY

JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2016

____________

S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE UNTIMELY PASSING OF DORIAN J.

MURRAY

Introduced By: Senators Algiere, Morgan, Walaska, Metts, and Satchell

     Date Introduced: March 09, 2016

Referred To: Recommended for Immediate Consideration

1

WHEREAS, There is an illusion that youth equals invincibility and a life yet to be lived,

2

filled with the promise of bright tomorrows and soon to be climbed summits. When that myth is

3

shattered, it leaves a void in the foundation of our beliefs, and a sorrow that is almost impossible

4

to grasp, and so it is with utmost sadness that we have learned of the passing of Dorian Murray;

5

and

6

WHEREAS, This Senate will always remember the poignant visual of Dorian munching

7

on chips and snuggling against his mom as myriad members of the Senate rose to honor and

8

recognize his dreams and their effect on the world; and

9

WHEREAS, Dorian Murray, a brave and inspiring eight-year-old boy from Westerly,

10

was the son of Chris and Melissa Murray. At the age of four, he was diagnosed with

11

rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of pediatric cancer; and

12

WHEREAS, It would have been almost impossible to conceive of the worldwide impact

13

that Dorian created when he told his dad that he wanted to be famous in China. The consequences

14

of his innocent request released a global outpouring of #DSTRONG love and support that reached

15

from the beach in his hometown to the Great Wall of China with hundreds of stops in between;

16

and

17

WHEREAS, Dorian's spirit has left a legacy of courage and hope that will endure. His

18

parents have established The Dorian J. Murray Foundation, which is aimed at bringing awareness

19

to childhood cancer by providing emotional and financial support to families dealing with

1

pediatric cancer; now, therefore be it

2

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

3

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Dorian Murray; and be it further

4

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

5

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Chris Murray and Family, and Melissa Murray

6

and Family.
