HONORING LAURENT E. GENDRON ON THE MOMENTOUS OCCASION OF HIS 90TH

BIRTHDAY

     WHEREAS, Laurent E. Gendron, affectionately known as "Ed" by his close family and

2

"Larry" by his many friends, was born nine decades ago on April 11, 1926. It was a time when

3

teaching the theory of evolution was still banned in many southern states, the very first talking

4

movie premiered in New York, and a loaf of bread cost only 7ยข: and

5

     WHEREAS, Born in Blackstone, Massachusetts, Mr. Gendron is the son of the late

6

Eugene and Blanche Gendron. As a young child, his family moved to Woonsocket, and in 1944,

7

he enlisted in the United States Army. He was deployed to Germany during World War II, where

8

he saw action as an infantryman, including the infamous crossing of the Rhine River. He was

9

honorably discharged in 1946, at the rank of Sergeant and returned home to Woonsocket; and

10

     WHEREAS, A few years later, Mr. Gendron met and married the love of his life, Janet,

11

and for the past sixty-six years, the couple has made a wonderful life. Together they have

12

nurtured a large and loving family including seven children, Barbara Ducharme and her husband,

13

Robert, John Gendron and his wife, Linda, Dolores Ducharme and her husband, the late Ronald

14

Ducharme, Patricia Girard and her husband, the late Daniel Girard, Kevin Gendron and his wife,

15

Angela Warren Chaney, Daniel Gendron and his wife, Ann Marie, and Maureen Gendron; and

16

     WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. and Mrs. Gendron have been blessed with eight

17

grandchildren, Kathleen Miller and her husband, Erik, Timothy Girard and his wife, Krista,

18

Pamela Dunn and her husband, Eli, Bethany Gale and her husband, Shaun, Stephanie Girard,

19

Andrew Gendron and his wife, Abigail, Nathan Gendron, and Victoria Gendron, and two

beautiful great-grandchildren, Charlie Rae Dunn and Eero Gale; and

2

     WHEREAS, Mr. Gendron has always been a hardworking man who has provided well

3

for his family. He retired from Eastland Bank in 1991, and now enjoys the good life with his

4

family, as well as finding time to devote to his lifelong hobby as an avid amateur photographer;

5

and

6

     WHEREAS, Mr. Gendron's life has spanned nine remarkable decades, and over the

7

course of those years, he has indelibly impacted the lives of so many people with his wealth of

8

knowledge, his spirit and his exuberance for life; now, therefore be it

9

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

10

hereby joins the family and many friends of Larry Gendron in honoring him on the joyous

11

occasion of his 90th Birthday. We moreover wish him good health, great success and much

12

happiness for many years to come; and be it further

13

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

14

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Laurent E. Gendron.
