RELATING TO MILITARY AFFAIRS AND DEFENSE | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Section 30-28-1 of the General Laws in Chapter 30-28 entitled "Monuments |
2 | and Memorials" is hereby repealed. |
3 | 30-28-1. Designation of Veterans' Memorial Building. -- The building acquired by the |
4 | state for use as a state office building and formerly known as the Masonic Temple, located on |
5 | Francis Street in the city of Providence, shall be known and designated as the "Veterans' |
6 | Memorial Building." |
7 | SECTION 2. Sections 30-28-2, 30-28-3 and 30-28-4 of the General Laws in Chapter 30- |
8 | 28 entitled "Monuments and Memorials" are hereby amended to read as follows: |
9 | 30-28-2. Allocation of building space. -- The governor is authorized and empowered to |
10 | direct and advise the director of the department of administration to make available such space as |
11 | may reasonably be allocated in the Veterans' Memorial Building William F. Powers Building, |
12 | One Capitol Hill, Providence, Rhode Island 02908, to the united veterans' council for use as |
13 | headquarters by the following chartered veterans' organizations: |
14 | (1) The American Legion; |
15 | (2) Veterans of Foreign Wars; |
16 | (3) Disabled American Veterans of World War I; |
17 | (4) United Spanish War Veterans Military Women Across the Nation; |
18 | (5) American Veterans of World War II; |
19 | (6) Jewish War Veterans of Rhode Island; |

1 | (7) The Marine Corps League; |
2 | (8) The Italian American War Veterans of the United States, Incorporated; |
3 | (9) The Franco-American War Veterans, Inc. Korean War Veterans; |
4 | (10) Vietnam Veterans of America; and |
5 | (11) Any other chartered veterans' organization. |
6 | 30-28-3. Organizations accommodated in memorial building. --Organizations |
7 | accommodated in the William F. Powers Building, One Capitol Hill, Providence, Rhode |
8 | Island 02908. -- The director of administration shall direct the architect to include in his final |
9 | plans such areas as may be reasonably allocated to the following chartered veterans' |
10 | organizations: The American legion; veterans of foreign wars; Disabled American veterans of |
11 | world war I; United Spanish war veterans Korean War Veterans; American veterans of world war |
12 | II; Jewish war veterans of Rhode Island; The Marine corps league; Military Women Across the |
13 | Nation; The Italian American war veterans of the United States, incorporated. |
14 | 30-28-4. Office equipment of veterans' organizations. -- Proper office equipment shall |
15 | be furnished and supplied for each state department of chartered veterans' organizations located in |
16 | the Veterans' Memorial Building William F. Powers Building, One Capitol Hill, Providence, |
17 | Rhode Island 02908, without cost to the organization. |
18 | SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
