	RELATING TO CRIMINAL PROCEDURE --- ARREST

	It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
1	SECTION 1. Section 12-7-19 of the General Laws in Chapter 12-7 entitled "Arrest" is
2	hereby amended to read as follows:
3	12-7-19. Arrest after close pursuit by officers from cities or towns. -- Any member of
4	a duly organized municipal peace unit of another city or town of the state who enters any city or
5	town in close pursuit and continues within any city or town in such close pursuit of a person in
6	order to arrest stop him or her on the ground that he or she has violated the motor vehicle code in
7	the other city or town shall have the same authority to arrest and hold in custody the person as
8	members of a duly organized municipal peace unit of any city or town have to arrest and hold in
9	custody a person on the ground that he or she has violated the motor vehicle code in any city or
10	town for a suspected violation of any provision of the motor vehicle code committed in the other
11	city or town, shall be vested with all of the same authority as a member of a duly organized
12	municipal peace unit of the city or town.
13	SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

	BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

	RELATING TO CRIMINAL PROCEDURE --- ARREST

1	This act would permit police officers in one municipality to pursue a vehicle into another
2	municipality for any suspected violation of the motor vehicle code, including non-arrestable
3	offenses, and would grant them the same powers as an officer of that municipality.
4	This act would take effect upon passage.
