CONGRATULATING J. CHRISTIAN WOULFE ON HIS RETIREMENT AFTER MORE | |
THAN FORTY-ONE YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED AND DEVOTED SERVICE TO THE | |
SCANDINAVIAN HOME AND THE ENTIRE SENIOR CITIZEN COMMUNITY OF RHODE | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Scandinavian Home, founded in 1930, is a nonprofit living community |
2 | located in the Edgewood section of Cranston, Rhode Island. The Scandinavian Home offers a |
3 | wide range of services including assisted living services, rehabilitation and skilled nurses |
4 | services, family education programs, support groups, and a chaplaincy program that offers |
5 | spiritual, emotional and religious support to its residents and families of all faiths; and |
6 | WHEREAS, J. Christian "Chris" Woulfe has served as the Administrator and Executive |
7 | Director of the Scandanavian Home since 1980. Under his guidance and direction, the |
8 | Scandanavian Home constructed its Assisted living Community facilities in 1991, and made |
9 | significant renovations to the Scandanavian Nursing Home. In 2013 and 2014, Mr. Woulfe |
10 | oversaw further needed renovations to the Scandanavian Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing |
11 | facilities and the Assisted Living facilities. More importantly, under Mr. Woulfe's direction, the |
12 | Scandanavian Home has earned a well-deserved reputation for providing its residents with the |
13 | best care and quality possible while at the same time honoring and maintaining the dignity of |
14 | every patient; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Mr. Woulfe has been a tireless and vocal advocate and proponent for the |
16 | nursing home and assisted living care community and its organizations. He was a founding |
17 | member of the Rhode Island Association of Facilities and Services for the Aging (RIAFSA), now |
18 | known as Leading Age of Rhode Island. Mr. Woulfe, through his affiliation with RIAFSA, |

1 | became involved with the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA), |
2 | a leading national organization for nonprofit long-term care, and now known as Leading Age, |
3 | where he served in their House of Delegates for four years. Mr. Woulfe also was a founding |
4 | member of CareLink, a nonprofit network of post-acute care providers, and was a founding |
5 | member and President, of the Rhode Island Nursing Home Group, a workers' compensation self- |
6 | insurance group created to combat high premiums and a shortage of carriers; now, therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
8 | hereby congratulates J. Christian Woulfe on his retirement after forty-one years of exemplary and |
9 | dedicated service to the Scandanavian Home and the entire senior citizen community of Rhode |
10 | Island; and be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
12 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. J. Christian Woulfe. |
