A N   A C T

RELATING TO THE TOWN OF NEW SHOREHAM

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. The town of New Shoreham is authorized to submit to the qualified electors

of the town of New Shoreham at the next general election in November of 2016 for their approval

the following referendum question:

     "In the event that the town of New Shoreham shall acquire the assets of the Block Island

Power Company, shall those assets be operated as (choose one):

     (A) The New Shoreham Utility Association, as a quasi-public municipal corporation, to

be created by an act of the General Assembly, within twelve (12) months of the date of passage of

this referendum;

     (B) The New Shoreham Utility Association, as a nonprofit cooperative, to be created by

an act of the General Assembly, within twelve (12) months of the date of passage of this

referendum;

     (C) A department of the town government."

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would authorize a referendum for the voters of the town of New Shoreham to

determine the structure of an electrical utility to be acquired by the town.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
