S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE WHEELER SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM ON WINNING THE

2016 RHODE ISLAND DIVISION III BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

     WHEREAS, The Wheeler School Baseball Team compiled an outstanding 15-3 League

record and a berth in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Division III playoffs; and

     WHEREAS, The Wheeler School Baseball Team rolled through the early rounds of the

playoffs, shutting out Exeter/West Greenwich 4-0 in a preliminary game and later defeating

Juanita Sanchez Complex to advance to the final round; and

     WHEREAS, In a rematch against Exeter/West Greenwich High School played at Rhode

Island College, Wheeler won their first baseball State Title in convincing fashion, thrashing

Exeter/West Greenwich enroute to a 9-3 victory. Wheeler was led to victory by the clutch

pitching provided by Ben Alexio and the timely hitting provided by Oscar Bruno and Joe

Boushell; and

     WHEREAS, Winning a State Title in a team sport is a difficult accomplishment, one that

requires that every member of the team give their all and always place team goals ahead of

individual needs and desires. The Wheeler School Baseball Team benefited all season by having

a plethora of these kinds of team-first players as they were led by the sterling play provided by

Captain Nicholas J. Souza, and team members Dakota E. Wharton, Zac Emanuel, Anthony C.

Bomba, III, Joseph G. Boushell, Benjamin C. Aleixo, Zack M. Levy, Daniel P. Baruch, Eric S.

Pappas, Alex Evangelista, Sam B. Hunt, and Oscar P. Bruno. The Wheeler School Baseball Team

was also aided all season by the outstanding coaching and leadership provided by Head Coach

Peter Olson, and Assistant Coaches Edward Hunt and Joseph Lopes; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby congratulates the Wheeler School Baseball Team on winning the 2016 Rhode Island

Division III Baseball Championship; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Peter Olson, Head Coach, Wheeler School

Baseball Team.
