RELATING TO LABOR AND LABOR RELATIONS -- QUALITY CARE FOR PERSONS

WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Barros, Abney, Regunberg, Blazejewski, and

     Date Introduced: February 24, 2016

     Referred To: House Finance

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 28-12 of the General Laws entitled "Minimum Wages" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     28-12-3.3. Minimum wages for employees of developmental disabilities

4

organizations. -- Commencing January 1, 2017, every covered employer providing services to

5

persons with developmental disabilities, that are reimbursed for such services by the state, shall

6

pay each of their employees, at least fifteen dollars ($15.00) per hour. For the purposes of this

7

section, covered employers are those developmental disability organizations licensed to provide

8

services pursuant to chapter 24 of title 40.1.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

OF

WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES

     This act would require that every employer who provides services to persons with

2

developmental disabilities, which are reimbursed for such services by the state, pay their

3

employees fifteen dollars ($15.00) an hour.

4

     This act would take effect upon passage.
