RELATING TO FOOD AND DRUGS - SANITATION IN FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Melo, Corvese, Shekarchi, McNamara, and Amore

     Referred To: House Health, Education & Welfare

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 21-27-11.2 of the General Laws in Chapter 21-27 entitled

"Sanitation in Food Establishments" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     21-27-11.2. Application for certification. -- Any person who shall desire to be certified

4

in food safety shall submit in writing, on any forms as provided by the division, an application for

5

certification which shall be accompanied by an application fee as set forth in ยง 23-1-54 together

6

with any other credentials that the rules and regulations and the division may require. There shall

7

be no requirement for an instructor to hold a bachelor's degree, provided that the instructor is

8

certified by a nationally accredited food safety certification program recognized by the state,

9

including, but not limited to, the ServSafe program of the National Restaurant Association.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would provide that an instructor for food safety certification need not possess a

2

bachelor's degree, if the instructor is certified by a nationally accredited food safety certification

3

program recognized by the state.

4

     This act would take effect upon passage.
