A N   A C T

RELATING TO EDUCATION - DUAL ENROLLMENT EQUAL OPPORTUNITY ACT

     Introduced By: Representatives McEntee, and Craven

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 16-100 of the General Laws entitled "Dual Enrollment Equal

Opportunity Act" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     16-100-6. Program funding. – (a) Subject to appropriation, beginning with school year

2016-2017, and annually thereafter, any student enrolled in a secondary school while

simultaneously enrolled part-time or full-time at a local institution of higher learning, such as a

community college or university, shall receive funding to offset a portion of the expenses

incurred by said student relating to transportation, textbooks, curriculum/instruction support, and

the costs of the education and fees imposed by the Rhode Island board of education.

     (b) The percentage of said offset shall be calculated annually by the board of education.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would provide for an appropriation of funds to any dual enrollment student to

offset a portion of the expenses incurred by said student relating to transportation, textbooks,

curriculum/instruction support and shared costs of the education and fees imposed by the Rhode

Island board of education for the 2016-2017 school year and annually thereafter.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
