	A N A C T
	RELATING TO EDUCATION -- THE RHODE ISLAND BOARD OF EDUCATION ACT

	It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
1	SECTION 1. Chapter 16-97 of the General Laws entitled "The Rhode Island Board of
2	Education Act" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:
3	16-97-8.1. District assessment matrix. -- (a) Each school district shall, on an annual
4	basis, make public and furnish to the department of education a comprehensive assessment matrix
5	detailing and summarizing the district's assessment system. The assessment matrix shall include,
6	without limitation, grade levels, the types of assessments given, the subject matter being assessed,
7	how such data is being utilized, the total annual time spent on assessment, how assessments are
8	conducted, the cost of purchasing and scoring the assessments, identification of the entity
9	requiring the assessment (federal, state or local), the identity of any alternative test or voluntary
10	component (and, if so, the percentage of students applying for such alternative), and the identity
11	of the group that the assessment is measuring (student, teachers, school, district, state or any
12	combination thereof).
13	(b) The department of education shall coordinate with the school districts to promulgate
14	uniform rules and regulations in furtherance of this section.
15	SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
