RELATING TO LABOR AND LABOR RELATIONS - FIREFIGHTERS' ARBITRATIONS

     Introduced By: Senators Goodwin, Ruggerio, Goldin, Gallo, and Pearson

     Date Introduced: February 25, 2016

     Referred To: Senate Labor

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 28-9.1-7 of the General Laws in Chapter 28-9.1 entitled

"Firefighters' Arbitration" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     28-9.1-7. Unresolved issues submitted to arbitration. -- In the event that the bargaining

agent and the corporate authorities are unable, within thirty (30) days from and including the date

of their first meeting, to reach an agreement on a contract, any and all unresolved issues shall be

submitted to arbitration. The parties may agree in writing to extend the thirty (30) day period.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

RELATING TO LABOR AND LABOR RELATIONS - FIREFIGHTERS' ARBITRATIONS

     This act would allow parties to a firefighters' contract negotiation to extend the thirty (30)

day bargaining period before submitting unresolved issues to arbitration.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
