RELATING TO CRIMINAL PROCEDURE - STATE CRIME LABORATORY

     

     Introduced By: Senators Sosnowski, Jabour, Felag, Conley, and Archambault

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 12-1.2-6 of the General Laws in Chapter 12-1.2 entitled "State

Crime Laboratory" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     12-1.2-6. Candidates for director and other positions -- Selection -- Appointment --

4

Dismissals. -- (a) Candidates for the position of director and all other positions of the crime

5

laboratory may be recommended to the commission by the executive secretary and/or other

6

members of the commission as well as from all other sources.

      (b) The director and all other positions of the state crime laboratory shall be considered

8

limited appointment positions of the board of governors for higher education employees of the

9

council on postsecondary education and shall be subject to all employment policies, practices and

10

procedures of the board of governors for higher education council on postsecondary education

11

and the University of Rhode Island.

      (c) The appointive authority for the University of Rhode Island shall also be the

13

appointing authority for the position of director and all other positions of the state crime

14

laboratory subject to approval or disapproval by the commission.

15

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would make the director and other positions of the state crime laboratory

employees of the council on postsecondary education as opposed to limited appointments

3

positions of the board of governors.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
