CONGRATULATING THE HONORABLE GLORIA FOX ON HER RETIREMENT FROM | |
THE MASSACHUSETTS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AFTER THIRTY YEARS OF | |
DISTINGUISHED AND FAITHFUL SERVICE TO HER CONSTITUENTS AND THE | |
CITIZENS OF MASSACHUSETTS | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Honorable Gloria Fox has served her constituents in the Massachusetts |
2 | House of Representatives with passion, compassion, honor, and integrity since she was first |
3 | elected in 1986. She has served as Vice Chair of the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Housing, |
4 | on the Joint Committee on Ways and Means, the House Committee on Steering, Policy and |
5 | Scheduling, and the House Committee on Ways and Means; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Representative Fox's passion for serving the poor and vulnerable came |
7 | about in part as an extension of her life story. She was raised in foster care in Boston and Everett |
8 | and lived for a while as a single mother in Roxbury. She began her involvement in community |
9 | activism when she supported demonstrations opposed to the state's plan to extend Interstate 95 |
10 | through Roxbury. She then went on to become a well-respected community activist in the 1960's |
11 | and 1970's; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Since her election to the Massachusetts House of Representatives, |
13 | Representative Fox has been a tireless advocate for the poor and dispossessed. She has fought |
14 | vigorously for the proper funding of human resource providers, and her passion for ensuring that |
15 | those in need are never forgotten is widely admired by her colleagues, friends, and those living on |
16 | the margins of society. Perhaps Representative Fox best described herself when she stated that |
17 | she portrays her work as "A life of giving and sharing." In 2011, Representative Fox received the |
18 | "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the National Black Caucus of legislators for her community |

2 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
3 | Providence Plantations hereby congratulates the Honorable Gloria Fox, on her retirement from |
4 | the Massachusetts House of Representatives after thirty years of distinguished and devoted |
5 | service to her constituents and the citizens of Massachusetts. We wish her a most happy |
6 | retirement and continued success in all her future endeavors; and be it further |
7 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
8 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Gloria Fox. |
