A N   A C T

RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES - TRAFFIC OFFENSES

     Introduced By: Representatives Perez, Williams, Slater, Diaz, and Coughlin

     Referred To: House Judiciary

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 31-27 of the General Laws entitled "Motor Vehicle Offenses" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     31-27-26. Prompt violation payment.

     Any motorist that receives a moving violation, whose fine may be paid without a court

appearance, and who pays the fine in full within thirty (30) days of its issuance, shall not have the

violation recorded on the motorist's department of motor vehicle's driving record. Provided,

however, that this expungement procedure may not be utilized more than twice a year.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES - TRAFFIC OFFENSES

     This act would require the department of motor vehicles not place on a motorist's driving

record, no more than twice yearly, a traffic violation whose fine has been paid no longer than

thirty (30) days after issuance.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
