EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF RETIRED WESTERLY POLICE

CHIEF NUNZIO A. CIMALORE

     WHEREAS, Nunzio A. Cimalore, former Police Chief of the Town of Westerly, passed

2

away on Monday, January 30, 2017. He was born on October 29, 1929, the son of the late Joseph

3

and Christina Cimalore. He was also the beloved husband of the late Evelyn M. Cimalore; and

4

     WHEREAS, Chief Cimalore was a dedicated public servant who served our nation and

5

the citizens of Rhode Island with honor, valor and integrity. He was a veteran of the United States

6

Army and later joined the Westerly Police Department in 1961. He also attained a degree in

7

criminal justice from Salve Regina University; and

8

     WHEREAS, Chief Cimalore began his exemplary law enforcement career as a Patrol

9

Officer and thanks to his tireless work ethic and devotion to duty, he steadily climbed the ranks to

10

the positions of Sergeant in 1971, Lieutenant in 1973, Captain in 1977 and ultimately, Police

11

Chief in 1981; and

12

     WHEREAS, As Police Chief of Westerly from 1981 to 1986, Nunzio Cimalore was a

13

beloved figure in the community, respected by all for his intelligence, integrity, and his ability to

14

relate to everyone, from the highest authority figure to the common citizen. Chief Cimalore was a

15

kind and compassionate man who cared deeply about those under his command and for the

16

citizens he took an oath to protect. He was a venerable figure in Westerly and law enforcement

17

communities and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him; and

18

     WHEREAS, Chief Cimalore leaves behind his son, Steven M. Cimalore, and his wife,

19

Tamara, and daughters, Jo-Ann M. Baker, Christine M. Cimalore, and Evelyn Algier, and her

husband, John, and was the devoted father of the late Thomas J. Cimalore. He also leaves behind

2

his grandchildren, Melissa, Rebecca, Alexis, Thomas, Allegra and Sage, and great-grandchildren

3

Chay, Enrico, Andre, and Liliana. Chief Cimalore is also survived by his siblings, Joseph,

4

Pasquale, Thomas Cimalore, Rose Laudone, and Sue Williams. He also leaves behind his

5

cherished nieces and nephews, and was predeceased by his brother, Louis Cimalore, and his

6

sister, Mary Engle; now, therefore be it

7

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

8

Providence Plantations hereby expresses its condolences on the passing of retired Westerly Police

9

Chief, Nunzio A. Cimalore; and be it further

10

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

11

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Steven M. Cimalore, Jo-Ann M. Baker,

12

Christine M. Cimalore, and Evelyn Algier.
