EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF RICHARD A. GRILLS | |

1 | WHEREAS, Richard A. Grills passed away on February 7, 2017. He was born in North |
2 | Stonington, Connecticut, the son of the late Anne and Peter Grills, Sr.; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Mr. Grills was an innovative entrepreneur who owned and operated the |
4 | Bradford Dyeing Association for many years, until his retirement. He also owned, with his |
5 | brother Peter, both the Stardust Motel in North Stonington and the original Patceez Freeze in |
6 | Hopkinton; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Mr. Grills was a member of the Board of Directors for the Washington Trust |
8 | Company for twenty years and was one of the founders of BankRI. He served as a member of the |
9 | Napoleon Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Chariho Rotary Club. He was also a former |
10 | member of the Bradford Citizens Club; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Mr. Grills generously donated hundreds of acres of land to create the Grills |
12 | Preserve in Westerly, and the Grills Wildlife Sanctuary in Hopkinton. In his spare time he |
13 | enjoyed building stone walls, collecting antiques, and restoring old homes. He served our nation |
14 | with honor and distinction during the Korean War as a member of the United States Navy; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Mr. Grills leaves behind his three children, Sharon Jackson and her |
16 | husband, Stephen, Michael Grills and his wife, Laurie, and Pamela Grills Stein. He also leaves |
17 | behind nine grandchildren, Valerie Nadreau, Gregory Jackson, Alexander Jackson, Benjamin |
18 | Grills, Anne Grills, Adam Grills, Chandler Grills, Peter Grills, and Jordan Gabrielle Stein, as well |
19 | as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Peter Grills, Jr., and his |
20 | former wife, Patricia Ann Grills; now, therefore be it |

1 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2 | Providence Plantations hereby expresses its condolences on the passing of Richard A. Grills; and |
3 | be it further |
4 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
5 | transmit a duly certified copies of this resolution to Sharon Jackson, Michael Grills, and Pamela |
6 | Grills Stein. |
