RELATING TO EDUCATION - FEES FOR STATE COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES -

VETERANS

     Introduced By: Representatives Azzinaro, Fellela, Canario, Messier, and Tobon

     Date Introduced: March 01, 2017

     Referred To: House Veterans` Affairs

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 16-59 of the General Laws entitled "Board of Governors for Higher

Education [See Title 16 Chapter 97 - The Rhode Island Board of Education Act]" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     16-59-29. Waiver of fees for veterans.

     (a) The council on postsecondary education shall authorize and encourage the presidents

of the Community College of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College and the University of Rhode

Island to exempt all veterans as defined in §16-92-3 from any and all application fees when

deemed to be in the best interests of the college or university.

     (b) The council on postsecondary education shall authorize and encourage the waiver of

transcript fees for veterans as defined in §16-92-3.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
