	RELATING TO STATE AFFAIRS AND GOVERNMENT -- STATE POLICE

	It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
1	SECTION 1. Chapter 42-28 of the General Laws entitled "State Police" is hereby
2	amended by adding thereto the following section:
3	42-28-2.1. Ranking of alternates for state police training academy.
4	(a) The superintendent of the state police shall require that any applicant for the Rhode
5	Island state police training academy who is not selected for the class but placed on a list of
6	potential alternates for the class shall be ranked according to objective qualification standards.
7	(b) Any vacancy occurring during any class of the Rhode Island state police training
8	academy shall be filled by the highest-ranking applicant on the list required by this section.
9	SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

1	This act would require that alternate applicants for the Rhode Island state police training
2	academy be ranked according to objective qualification standards and selected to fill vacancies
3	according to that ranking.
