A N   A C T

     RELATING TO STATE AFFAIRS AND GOVERNMENT -- STATE POLICE

     

     Introduced By: Representative Anastasia P. Williams

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 42-28 of the General Laws entitled "State Police" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     42-28-2.1. Ranking of alternates for state police training academy.

4

     (a) The superintendent of the state police shall require that any applicant for the Rhode

5

Island state police training academy who is not selected for the class but placed on a list of

6

potential alternates for the class shall be ranked according to objective qualification standards.

7

     (b) Any vacancy occurring during any class of the Rhode Island state police training

8

academy shall be filled by the highest-ranking applicant on the list required by this section.

9

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would require that alternate applicants for the Rhode Island state police training

academy be ranked according to objective qualification standards and selected to fill vacancies

3

according to that ranking.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
