EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF VICTOR HUGO CUENCA | |

1 | WHEREAS, Victor Hugo Cuenca, a noted and well-respected entrepreneur in both |
2 | Rhode Island and Bolivia, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Mr. Cuenca was a native of Bolivia. He received a degree from the School |
4 | of Graphic Arts of Munich, Germany, and shortly thereafter he worked as a graphic designer at |
5 | the Spanish language newspaper La Semana in Boston. He also worked from 1994 to 1998 as a |
6 | Production Manager at El Mundo, a daily newspaper in Santa Cruz, Bolivia; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Mr. Cuenca established the esteemed Spanish language newspaper, |
8 | Providence en Español, a weekly publication that quickly garnered a reputation for being one of |
9 | Rhode Island’s leading and most trusted news outlets. For the stellar journalism it consistently |
10 | produced, the newspaper earned two Metcalf Journalism Awards and was honored three times by |
11 | the National Association of Hispanic Newspapers for excellence in journalism. Mr. Cuenca also |
12 | established, in 2015, Victor Cuenca Account Marketing, a public relations and digital marketing |
13 | firm; and |
14 | WHEREAS, In his spare time, Mr. Cuenca was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed |
15 | skydiving, an activity he had participated in since he was fourteen years old. He was also a doting |
16 | family man and was devoted to his Christian faith. Mr. Cuenca will be sorely missed by his |
17 | family and many friends and will be remembered for being a superb journalist and an |
18 | extraordinary entrepreneur; and |
19 | WHEREAS, Mr. Cuenca leaves behind his wife Vivian de la Zerda and his daughters |
20 | Samantha, Stephanie and Keila; now, therefore be it |

1 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2 | Providence Plantations hereby expresses its condolences on the passing of Victor Hugo Cuenca; |
3 | and be it further |
4 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
5 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Vivian de la Zerda and Family. |
