H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

WELCOMING SORAIYA TO THE RHODE ISLAND STATE HOUSE

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Diaz, Williams, Ruggiero, Hearn, and Lombardi

     WHEREAS, Soraiya was born in the City of Providence, the daughter of Clarissa and

2

Eduardo Marines; and

3

     WHEREAS, From an early age, Soraiya's love of music as well as her budding talents

4

were evident to her family, who held karaoke nights once a month, and by the age of six, she was

5

taking part in school performances and talent shows; and

6

     WHEREAS, Soraiya's beautiful voice soon caught the attention of local school board

7

representatives who asked that she sing for other schools as well. Since then, she has entertained

8

crowds across the state in more than thirty acting and vocal performance events; and

9

     WHEREAS, As she matured, Soraiya's voice and confidence also grew. In June of 2015,

10

at the age of nine, she was asked to perform the National Anthem for the first time in front of an

11

audience of hundreds of people, at the opening day of little league. Providence Mayor Jorge

12

Elorza, who was in attendance at the event, was so enthralled with her rendition and voice that he

13

requested she sing the Anthem at the India Point Park 4th of July Celebration; and

14

     WHEREAS, Soraiya has subsequently performed the National Anthem and her

15

interpretations of songs from artists like Adele, Jessie J, Alicia Keys, Whitney Houston in front of

16

over thirty thousand people, including singing at such venues as Providence's PVD Fest, the

17

Dominican Festival of RI, and PUMA(Peace Unity Music Arts) Fest. Recently, in February of

18

2017, she sang the National Anthem at the Providence College Friars basketball game; and

19

     WHEREAS, There are always young people who rise above the rest, who dare to dream,

20

and are willing to endeavor to make those dreams become reality. Soraiya's future is bright with

promise, and she is most certainly a tremendous role model for all Rhode Island's children; now,

2

therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

4

Providence Plantations hereby welcomes Soraiya to the House floor and thanks her for

5

performing the National Anthem in honor of the 6th Annual Child Care Day. We furthermore

6

wish her much happiness and continued success in all her future endeavors; and be it further

7

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

8

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Soraiya Marines.
