EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF JAMES SCOTTI | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this House has learned of the passing of James |
2 | Scotti, a highly respected and widely admired resident of the City of Warwick, the beloved |
3 | husband of Carole, his wife of fifty-five years, the cherished father of Sherry Rabil, Debra |
4 | Pilkington, and Karen Scotti, and the very proud grandfather of Ryan Scotti, Grant Pilkington, |
5 | and Evan St. Onge; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Born on Bank Street in Pawtuxet Village, "Scotti" as he was better known |
7 | by his family and many friends, grew up in the Federal Hill section of Providence and was the |
8 | loving son of the late Anthony and Victoria Scotti, the brother of Rosemary DeRosa, Thomas |
9 | Scotti, and the late Anna Brearton, and the cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. He |
10 | became a familiar face to many Warwick residents when he worked at his family's business, |
11 | Scotti's Ice Cream, a very popular and landmark family business in the city; and |
12 | WHEREAS, As a teenager, Mr. Scotti also began working as a volunteer firefighter, a |
13 | passion that would become a lifelong career; and while his family always came first in his heart, |
14 | he was devoted to his fraternal brothers in the firefighting community and the Teamsters Union, |
15 | with whom he served and protected the community for sixty-four years; and |
16 | WHEREAS, As a life-long member of the Pawtuxet Volunteer Fire Company in |
17 | Cranston, and later the Special Signal Fire Association/Providence Canteen, Mr. Scotti rose |
18 | through the ranks of the company, serving as the President and Captain of the Pawtuxet Station. |
19 | He was also a proud member of Teamsters Union, Local 251, retiring in 1991; and |
20 | WHEREAS, In addition to his responsibilities within our state, Mr. Scotti was also of |

1 | service to first responders and citizens at both Ground Zero in New York City and post Hurricane |
2 | Katrina in New Orleans, where his assistance through the Providence Canteen helped to give aid |
3 | and comfort to those in desperate need and under the most difficult of circumstances; and |
4 | WHEREAS, There is no doubt that Jimmy Scotti, a humble, gentle and unassuming man |
5 | left this world a far better place because of his life's endeavors. He was a legend and mentor to |
6 | many, a friend to even more, and always a steadfast gentleman whose personal integrity enriched |
7 | the lives of all who knew him; now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
9 | Providence Plantations hereby recognizes and honors Mr. James Scotti for his service to our state, |
10 | and extends our deepest sympathies to the entire Scotti Family on his passing. He will always be |
11 | remembered and forever missed; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Carole Scotti and Family. |
