	EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES AND SUPPORT FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE MAY 22,
	2017, TERROR BOMBING IN MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM

1	WHEREAS, On May 22, 2017, thousands of people, including many youngsters, were
2	attending a concert by American singer Ariana Grande at the Manchester Arena, in Manchester,
3	United Kingdom, when, according to news reports, a lone suspect carried out an attack using an
4	explosive device in an apparent suicide attack. Twenty-one innocent people, in addition to the
5	perpetrator, died in this attack, and fifty-nine others were wounded; and
6	WHEREAS, This cowardly attack, seemingly aimed at harming young children, has
7	shocked the world and has been rightly condemned by most of the world's leaders. It was an
8	attack on freedom and liberty designed to scare people into not going about their lives as they
9	ordinarily would, but we know that the British people, the founders of modern democracy, have
10	prevailed against other grave threats in their long history, and they will surely prevail again; and
11	WHEREAS, Last night, as the world watched in horror at the loss and maiming of
12	innocent lives, all decent people joined together in offering their condolences and support to the
13	victims and families of this senseless act; now, therefore be it
14	RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
15	Providence Plantations hereby expresses its condolences to and support for the victims of the
16	May 22, 2017, terror bombing in Manchester, United Kingdom; and be it further
17	RESOLVED, That this House hopes that any and all perpetrators are brought to justice,
18	and we pray for an end to terror and the killing of innocent people; and be it further
19	RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

1	provide a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Theresa May, Prime Minister, United
2	Kingdom.
