HONORING MICHAEL ISAACS, EAST GREENWICH TOWN COUNCIL PRESIDENT

AFTER TWELVE YEARS OF MERITORIOUS AND DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE

CITIZENS OF EAST GREENWICH

     WHEREAS, Michael Isaacs was born on March 22, 1947. He graduated from the

2

University of Rochester in 1969 (with honors), and attained a Doctor of Jurisprudence law degree

3

from Boston College in 1974. He is currently a member of the Rhode Island, Massachusetts and

4

Washington, D.C. Bar Associations. He is married to Mindy Isaacs and is the father of one

5

daughter, Tara; and

6

     WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael Isaacs was first elected to the East Greenwich

7

Town Council in 2004, and has served his constituents and the citizens of East Greenwich with

8

honor and integrity for the last twelve years. Upon taking office, Michael quickly earned a

9

reputation for being diligent in his duties. He always returned the phone calls of taxpayers and

10

always found time to listen to his constituents' concerns and discuss possible solutions with them;

11

and

12

     WHEREAS, Mr. Isaacs has compiled numerous accomplishments during his tenure on

13

the Council. He was instrumental in getting a new Police Station constructed and equipping the

14

police officers with state-of-the-art equipment. This did much to boost the morale of the police

15

department in East Greenwich. He also played a key role in the conversion of the Town Dump

16

into what is now Scallop Town Park. He has always worked hard to ensure that Town services

17

were being provided in a high-quality and efficient manner and always strived to keep property

18

taxes affordable. In this vein, he was a vigorous supporter of consolidating various departments,

19

including combining finance departments, and consolidating grounds maintenance, snow

plowing, trash collection and recycling services; and

2

     WHEREAS, In an effort to improve the quality of life in East Greenwich, Council

3

President Isaacs oversaw the renovation of the Swift Community Center from a dilapidated

4

building to a place where young people now spend much of their free time and into a center that

5

is much enjoyed and appreciated by East Greenwich residents. He was also instrumental in

6

formatting a twenty year lease with New England Tech, and played a vital role in the passage of a

7

bond issue for the Archie Cole Middle School; and

8

     WHEREAS, Michael Isaacs is also very accomplished outside of politics. He is a

9

successful private practice lawyer who previously served in a number of leadership positions

10

including, Vice-President of Government & Corporate Relations and as the Vice-President of

11

development for a number of private business entities including the Providence Journal Company

12

and Bresnan Communications. Mr. Isaacs also served as Chair of Rhode Island PBS Station

13

Channel 36, on the Board of Directors of Jewish Senior Services and the Jewish Federation, and

14

presently serves on the Board of Directors for the Rhode Island Brain and Spine Tumor

15

Foundation; now, therefore be it

16

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

17

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates The Honorable Michael Isaacs on his retirement as

18

Council President of the East Greenwich Town Council after twelve years of distinguished and

19

devoted service. We wish him continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

20

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

21

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Michael Isaacs, President, East

22

Greenwich Town Council.
