CONGRATULATING KRISTIN HAYES-LEITE ON BEING NAMED THE RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, Kristin Hayes-Leite, the Social Studies Department Chair at Narragansett |
2 | High School, has been named the Rhode Island Teacher of the Year. She was presented with the |
3 | award by Governor Raimondo and Education Commissioner Ken Wagner in a surprise ceremony |
4 | held in the school gymnasium where the audience was told by the Governor that "She is a leader, |
5 | she is innovative, she is compassionate, and she is completely committed to her students"; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Hayes-Leite is a graduate of Franklin Pierce College and Rhode Island |
7 | College, where she received a Master's degree in teaching and reading. She has worked at |
8 | Narragansett High School for sixteen years and in addition to her teaching duties, has helped to |
9 | create new elective courses, has assisted with extracurricular activities, and has been a member of |
10 | the school's Fuse Architect pilot team; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Hayes-Leite is a member of the National Council on the Social |
12 | Studies, the Rhode Island Society of Technology Educators, and the International Reading |
13 | Association. She was named the Narragansett Employee of the Year and was awarded the Horace |
14 | Mann Abraham Lincoln Fellowship in 2010. Mrs. Hayes-Leite will now represent Rhode Island |
15 | in the National Teacher of the Year competition. During the 2017-2018 school year she will help |
16 | to develop policy and support education with the Rhode Island Department of Education; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Hayes-Leite has a deep love for learning and the learning process. She |
18 | cares deeply for each of her students and works tirelessly to help all of them reach their full |
19 | potential. She is an innovative educator who is not afraid to get outside of her comfort zone and |

1 | try new ideas and approaches in and outside the classroom. Mrs. Hayes-Leite is also someone |
2 | who has had to overcome many challenges in her own life, and it is her resiliency, strength of |
3 | character and deeply abiding commitment to her students that makes her a teacher who can relate |
4 | to her students and make them understand how much can truly be accomplished when one never |
5 | gives up in life. Perhaps Narragansett High School Senior Joe Lebeck summed up best her impact |
6 | on her students when he said about her, "What makes Mrs. Hayes-Leite so phenomenal at her job |
7 | is her ability to get the most out of her students"; now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
9 | Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Mrs. Kristin Hayes-Leite of Narragansett High |
10 | School on being named the Rhode Island Teacher of the Year; and be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
12 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Kristin Hayes-Leite. |
