H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING AND THANKING JOHN J. LANCELLOTTA FOR 40 YEARS OF

DEVOTED AND EXEMPLARY SERVICE TO THE UNITED STATES JUNIOR CHAMBER

(JAYCEES)

     WHEREAS, The United States Junior Chamber, commonly known as the Jaycees, is a

2

leadership training and service organization founded in 1920. Their mission is to provide young

3

people with the opportunity to develop their personal and leadership skills through service to

4

others in the community; and

5

     WHEREAS, Mr. John J. "Jack" Lancellotta graduated cum laude from the Roger

6

Williams Law Center of Paralegal Studies, with majors in Political Science and Public

7

Administration. He has a long record of distinguished public service including working as a

8

caseworker in the Providence office of former United States Senator Claiborne Pell, Paralegal

9

Trainer in the in the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office of Public Protection, as an

10

Administrative Intern in the City of Warwick's Office for Community & Economic Development,

11

and as a Policy Advisor with the Narragansett Bay Commission; and

12

     WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Lancellotta has volunteered countless hours in

13

service to the JAYCEES and the wider community. He helped to develop the JAYCEE Corridor

14

& Arboretum, a beautiful and award-winning community and nature area that has hosted

15

numerous important statewide volunteer events including Earth Day, Arbor Day, Ecology Day &

16

Peace Prayer Ceremony, Corporate Care Days, National Public Lands Day, and the 9/11

17

Commemoration and Make a Difference Day; and

18

     WHEREAS, Mr. Lancellotta has served as a teaching volunteer with the Junior

19

Achievement of Rhode Island, as a facilitator with college service learning, and as a student

mentor for JAYCEES programming. He has also given much of his time in support of numerous

2

fundraising and philanthropic events for the JAYCEES including the Holiday Help Fund, Toys

3

for Tots & Teens, and the Change Charities/Candy Cane Exchange, which funds visitations at

4

nursing facilities, group homes and numerous other community projects; and

5

     WHEREAS, In honor of his meritorious public service career, Mr. Lancellotta has

6

received the 2005 Partners in Philanthropy Award, the Rhode Island Association of Professional

7

Fundraiser's Award, and the 2005 Presidential Lifetime Service Award; and

8

     WHEREAS, Mr. Lancellotta has been appointed and elected to many JAYCEE positions

9

at both the local and state levels. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the JAYCEE

10

Alumni Education and Library Foundation, a fiscal and charitable public entity that was

11

established to enhance the educational, charitable, leadership development and community action

12

programs of the JAYCEES; now, therefore be it

13

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

14

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates and thanks John J. Lancellotta for 40 years of

15

devoted and distinguished service to the United States Junior Chamber, commonly known as the

16

JAYCEES; and be it further

17

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

18

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. John J. Lancellotta.
