RELATING TO EDUCATION - TUITION FOR ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 16-59 of the General Laws entitled "Board of Governors for Higher |
2 | Education [See Title 16 Chapter 97 - The Rhode Island Board of Education Act]" is hereby |
3 | amended by adding thereto the following section: |
4 | 16-59-9.2. Military tuition waiver. |
5 | Notwithstanding any other provision of the general or public laws to the contrary, an |
6 | applicant who is a member of the armed forces or reserves of the United States and is currently |
7 | stationed in Rhode Island, shall be exempt from paying nonresident tuition at Rhode Island public |
8 | universities, colleges or community colleges. The council on postsecondary education shall |
9 | prescribe rules and regulations as may be necessary for the implementation of this section. |
10 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
