EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF MATTHEW R. TURCOTTE

(SPC. US ARMY)

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that we mourn the tragic death of United States

2

Army Specialist Matthew R. Turcotte who perished during a combined arms live-fire training

3

exercise at Fort Carson, Colorado, on August 23, 2017; and

4

     WHEREAS, Born in Providence and a lifelong North Smithfield resident, Matthew was

5

the husband of Megan and the son of Raymond and Lizza L. Rivera. He excelled at sports in high

6

school and upon graduating in 2015, he enlisted in the United States Army; and

7

     WHEREAS, Matthew served our nation with honor, integrity and valor with the rank of

8

Specialist in the United States Army. He was assigned to the Army’s 4th Infantry Division and

9

served for a period of time in Kosovo. During his two years of service, Matthew had earned the

10

Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces

11

Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the

12

Overseas Ribbon, and the NATO Medal; and

13

     WHEREAS, In addition to his wife and parents, Matthew Turcotte is survived by his

14

sisters, Kayla L. and Paige E. Turcotte, and his nephews Jason Jr. and Julien Lennox. He was the

15

paternal grandson of Raymond and Sheila Turcotte, maternal grandson of Gilberto and Liberty

16

Rivera, and son-in-law of Diane Fothergill. He was the nephew of Ronald and Alan Turcotte,

17

Donna Caccia, Debra Bellini, Gilbert and Darrell Rivera, the brother-in-law of Naomi and

18

Danielle Delannoy, and the uncle of Emily and Milo; now, therefore be it

19

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby expresses its deepest condolences to the Turcotte Family on the

2

passing of Matthew R. Turcotte, Specialist, United States Army; and be it further

3

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

4

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Megan Turcotte and Family.
