S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING RICHARD CHAREST ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER

MORE THAN FORTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AT LANDMARK MEDICAL

CENTER AND THE REHABILITATION HOSPITAL OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, In his early teens, Richard Charest, better known as "Rick" to his family and

2

many friends, joined the staff of Landmark Medical Center working as an orderly and a

3

dishwasher; and

4

     WHEREAS, Upon graduation from Northeastern University with a Bachelor's degree in

5

pharmacy, Mr. Charest continued his education, earning his Master's degree in healthcare

6

administration; and

7

     WHEREAS, After earning his degrees, Mr. Charest continued his career at Landmark,

8

serving as the director of pharmacy and myriad additional positions where he not only gained

9

additional responsibility and invaluable experience but also the esteem of his peers; and

10

     WHEREAS, In 2000, Mr. Charest was named President and CEO of the Rehabilitation

11

Hospital of Rhode Island, a position he still holds today. In 2007, he was named President of

12

Landmark Medical Center, and in 2008, he was also named CEO; and

13

     WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Mr. Charest's personal life has been entwined with

14

his professional service at Landmark. He met his lovely wife Christine at the hospital and both his

15

children were born there; and

16

     WHEREAS, Richard Charest leaves a legacy of commitment and dedication at Landmark

17

that has and will continue to positively impact the lives of many Rhode Islanders. He is truly an

18

extraordinary man who is enormously worthy of our emulation and acknowledgement; now,

19

therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2

hereby honors and thanks Richard Charest on the occasion of his retirement after more than forty

3

years of dedicated service at Landmark Medical Center and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode

4

Island. We moreover wish him good health and much happiness enjoying leisurely pursuits and

5

time with his three grandchildren; and be it further

6

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

7

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Richard Charest.
