S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING JACK KANE ON BEING SELECTED AS THE 2017 HIBERNIAN OF

THE YEAR

     WHEREAS, Jack Kane is a 1952 graduate of De La Salle Academy. He was a star

football player in high school and was named to the All State Team in 1952. Mr. Kane is a retired

Newport Firefighter and he served the citizens of Newport for many years with distinction and

integrity; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Kane is a long-time resident of the Fifth Ward of Newport and has been

a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians for more than forty years. He grew up in the Fifth

Ward with his siblings Philip, Francis, Larry, Bernie and Dottie. The Kanes were a well-known

musically talented family. Mr. Kane has kept up the family tradition with his regular

performances at the LaForge Casino restaurant. Also, Mr. Kane is one of the founding members

of the very successful Hibernian Men's Singers; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Kane and his wife, Mary Ellen were married in 1955, and together they

have six children, Tom, Steve, Rachel, Jack, Peter and Chrissy. Tom, Steve and Jack are also

AOH Division #1 members. Mary Ellen is also an amazing singer who performs a wonderful

version of "Second Hand Rose"; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby congratulates Jack Kane for being selected as the 2017 Hibernian of the Year; and be it

further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Jack Kane.
